Fashion Design Homework Assignments
For homework students research, analyze and evaluate the following hot topics going on about fashion. Then they should write a one-page persuasive writing paper telling the pros and con of the issue. Get them to bring in articles or topics they find too, for extra credit.

Fashion Design- Additional Homework Assignment Options:
1. Create 5 new croquis for your use during the semester.
2. Create a list of ten examples of clothing worn for identification.
3. Create a list of ten examples of clothing worn for protection.
4. Look through magazines and cut out examples of your favorite styles. Keep them in your sketchbook for reference.
5. Go to www.MFA.com, and click on Textile & Fashion Arts. From there you can go to “recent acquisitions”, “Art and Adornment”, “Ellen Stone Collection of American Textiles”, or “Fashion Illustration from the 30s and 40s”. Describe three pieces in full detail, and include the name of the artist, country of origin, and date. Print out or sketch what the pieces look like to go with your written description.
6. There are other collections in the above MFA Textile and Fashion arts. See “Walk This Way” an exhibit on shoes. Compare and contrast the differences and similarities of these shoes and modern shoes.
7. Look at tutorials on You-Tube that show how to draw hands in Fashion illustrations. Make a list of five online tutorials that you can share with the class.
8. Look at a fashion designer's Look Book online and write a description of the newest looks.

10. Go to Bing.com and watch an episode of Project Runway. Write two paragraphs describing what the project challenge was, what your top three favorites were, and which would-be designer won the challenge? Name one of the famous designers who are judges.
11. Go to www.ProjectRunway.com. Look around and enjoy the website. Go to the Judges Shop, and find out funny quotes commonly said by Tim Gunn that are written on products such as mugs and shirts. What three “Tim”isms did you find?
12. Keeping in mind your personal body shape, design an outfit for yourself that would be figure flattering.
13. Go to www.CocoMyles.com and design your own prom dress online. Print it out or sketch the final creation and put it in your sketchbook.
14. Look through Fashion magazines such as Elle, Teen Vogue, and Marie Claire. Using croquis of your choice, sketch three outfits that you see in them.
15. After class discussion about various types of body shaping in various cultures such as head flattening and elongation, foot binding, tatooing , write a one page persuasive paper stating your opinion of cosmetic surgery and tatooing in our culture.
16. Look up various recycled dress designs and brainstorm three ideas for your own. Sketch these ideas in your sketchbook.
17. In the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”, what were some of the positives and negatives the main character faced working in the Fashion Industry??
18. Compare and contrast two completely different wedding gown designs. Attach photos to yhour paper. Write descriptively, as if you were announcing it for a fashion show. What kind of neckline, hem, train, fabric, style does it have. What mood does it evoke? What kind of wedding would it be appropriate for?
